Earthquake, Take 2

I experienced another earthquake.  This one was Friday, February 13th.  I had just eaten dinner and was working on a crochet project.  I heard the rumble a split second before everything began to shake and knew in that instant it was an earthquake.

The blue dot below is where the epicenter of the earthquake was, right on the border of Nevada and California.

A zoomed in photo.  The county in California that kind of looks like Missouri slightly blown over is Inyo, where I live.
The blue dot is the epicenter and the red dot is where I live.  Those of us who live up by the Castle were about 12ish miles away.  Very exciting.
Earthquake stats.  The highlighted bar is the big one we felt.  You'll notice there were quite a few other shakes in the same area before and after the one we felt.

All the residents of my little neighborhood came out to discuss our experiences with the quake.  Those living in RVs could actually feel the 'rolling' of the shock waves while us in the apartments simply shook.  My next door neighbor's door popped open but that's about the extent of the excitement.  Everything was safe and sound in the Castle; nothing had fallen or broken or slipped.

Mojave National Preserve

Back in January I was able to travel south to Mojave National Preserve, in southeastern California.  Although it was a quick one night camping trip, it's always nice to get out and see new things.
I arrived later than I had anticipated and was able to watch the park film, wander through the VC, and pick up my junior ranger booklet before heading to the campground.  It's a large park and the paved roads aren't much better than the dirt roads so it was slow going.

I found a great campsite and set up.  The sun set shortly thereafter and it got COLD fast!  I was able to make myself dinner before my hands froze and soon after I crawled into my sleeping bag to get warm.  As soon as the sun was up the next morning, the temperature was lovely and I ventured to explore.

Close to my campsite there was a short loop trail, a portion of which passes through a slot canyon.  To aid hikers in traversing the dry falls, a system of rings has been placed into the rock.  It was quite enjoyable hiking and climbing through this area of the park.
Slot canyon!

It was a beautiful day.  The park, as I said, is huge and I was only able to see a small portion of it.

All fellow adventurers welcome to join me on my excursions!
