Houston Open House

Gil and I had decided to have a small, simple open house Saturday afternoon after the ceremony.  It turned into a bit more than we had planned, but I think it made my mom happy.  The room at the church looked really nice and it was fun to see some faces I hadn't seen in a while.

Little Christina was done.  It had been a long day for her.  She is Gil's sister's daughter.
This will be Gil and I in another 40 years.

Christina awake and contemplating her uncle Bill.
I love this picture.  This is Belinda's youngest, almost four months old, and distressed about something.  So cute!  Nancy is talking to Belinda; dear Nancy flew in from North Carolina just to attend the open house.

The four of us with our spouses.
It was a lovely affair.  The room looked beautiful, the food was delicious, and it was grand visiting with friends and family.

MARRIED!

Gil and I had a very subdued Valentine's day since we were flying to Houston two days later and had a ton of things to get done before we left.  He did get me a lovely bouquet which lasted a long time.  He is really good with plants.
We arrived in Houston Thursday afternoon.  Adam got in later that night.  Friday, the family and Gil went to the church I grew up in and started decorating one of the rooms for the open house.  I ran all over town getting last minute thank you gifts, getting my dress steamed, picking up flowers, and getting some last minute decorations purchased.  I helped a little with the room decorating too.

Gil's family flew in Friday night and he went to the airport to pick them up and then stayed with them.

I hadn't made any arrangements for getting my hair done and finally told my mom she could make an appointment with her hairdresser.  I'd been to him before and was very worried.  I printed three different but similar styles I would like.

I was up very early Saturday morning, and my mom and I went over to her hair dresser's salon.  We showed him the three ideas.  He said ok.  I should have said he was not even in the smallest, slightest way allowed to tease my hair.  Next thing I know, this was my hair.
It was awful when he proclaimed himself finished.  Awful!  It looked like an old lady.  Like an old fashioned beehive.  Like I had just stepped out of a 1960s yearbook.  Awful.  I didn't know what to do.  I can't fix my hair worth anything, and my mother, bless her efforts, isn't that great either.

We got back to the house and my friend Lori from Yosemite and my dear friend and roommate Melinda from Utah State had arrived.  Melinda had agreed a while back to help with my make-up, something else for which I am woefully unskilled at.  Melinda was a lifesaver!  I combed out the rat's nest that was my hair.  Melinda, who has beautiful long brown hair, said she had hers up for her wedding but she always wears it down in everyday life and wished she'd had it down for her wedding.  Taking her advice, she did a simple part braided half pony tail that turned out really nice.  She helped with my make-up too and her ministrations even won the approval of my dad who is quite picky, though he won't admit it.

Our ceremony was in the Houston Temple at 11am.  Our families were in attendance and a handful of very close friends.  The ceremony was short but very tender.

Here we are, coming out of the temple, married for about 20 minutes!

Almost everyone.  All the little old lady adopted grandmothers had already left.

My wonderful, dearest, longest, friends and bridesmaids: Kathryn, Belinda, Jenn, and Amber.

The fountains on the temple grounds were a big hit with the nieces and nephews.  Gil and his niece Maggie.
