Pismo Beach

Gil has been dropping some subtle hints lately about needing some beach time.  We were headed south for General Conference and thought we might as well take a short detour to the coast.  Gil was off Friday for Spring Break and I took the day off work.  We left Thursday evening and got a room half-way.  Gil had done some research and wanted to check out Pismo Beach.  I'd had friends from Yosemite who really liked Pismo too.  Plus, it's got a great name!

Our first stop was at a sea cave.  It was a bit of a let down.  There were lovely flowers though.
The tide starting to go out and uncover this rock.  If the descent hadn't been so treacherous, we probably would have wandered down to check out the tide pools.
Looking at the Pacific through the cave.  The cave walls were covered in graffiti, the floor with broken glass and campfire remains.  It was quite sad to see such a lovely place destroyed by people.
We wandered around the historic section of Pismo before heading to the beach.  It was chilly and the fog never burned off.  The water was painfully cold (so cold even Gil didn't get in) and I was assaulted by the sand fleas.  They left Gil alone but I looked like I was wearing polka-dots.  With the lack of sun, cold water, and the fleas, we didn't stay too long.  We did snap some photos of the coastline.

We headed into Redlands where Gil's cousin and her family live.  We spent Friday night and Saturday with them.  Sunday we headed to Gil's uncle's home.  He had four of his five children there and eleven of his fourteen grandchildren.  It was a full house and a wonderful day.

Gil built a fort for the younger ones to play in.

We left later than we should have and got home later than I wanted.  Regardless, we were both up and to work Monday.  It was a much needed get-away.
