I have a new dessert recipe. It it really good and really unhealthy so I only make it when I have an occasion for which I can share them. Down side of living alone, whatever I make, I'm probably going to eat it all. They are called Cake Balls and I was so thrilled with my drizzling skills I had to take a picture. I made a second batch, this time strawberry, so with a pink tint, and they were as well received as these.
Work is going well. My last day is the 31st. I am basically done with the original environmental assessment I was working on and was asked to help with a second one dealing with the targeted application of herbicide on native understory brush growing invasively and causing dangerously high fuel loads. Very fun! I have now applied for ten jobs, hope to turn in application eleven by Friday, and have not found anything. I have started a wall of rejection in my apartment. I tape my letters under the aptly named 'thanks for playing' sign. Don't worry, I have hope and plans. Keep reading. I do not find this wall in any way depressing, but amusing.
The big news in my life, and what has consumed my time, and in a most enjoyable way... I got cast in a musical!! I have auditioned a few times at the local community theatre here in town and finally got cast. The show is "Damn Yankees". My high school did it when I was a junior and I remember going twice because I really liked it. I've had the soundtrack for years and the show is in my top ten favorite musicals. I play multiple roles. I'm an annoyed house wife in the beginning, I'm a baseball player (it's an equal opportunity show), an assistant, a 102 year old woman, a woman in a night club, and a baseball fan. I'm in four dance/song numbers and am absolutely loving it. It's been three years since my last musical and I couldn't be more thrilled. The cast is great and hopefully we'll be polished by opening night, July 31st.

Congrats on being cast in the musical. I was telling Dan that I got an email from you and told him the subject line had profanity in it--he was quite surprised until I explained why. hahahaha. Good times.
ReplyDeleteSo the "houston for a week or so" part--can I see you? I can meet you at your parent's place or you can come to my house or we can go out to lunch or something--anything!
You should totally do education week and drive to Utah with Adam.
I can't imagine just going where the road takes me--but you are brave like that. While you're considering places, I still recommend Forks, WA. And not because of Twilight. It really is an amazingly beautiful place. Or Astoria, OR. Robin Gossett has a farm somewhere in Oregon--she'd be glad to have a visitor or even a tenant.
On the other hand, one of my good friends from freshman year was from north carolina and it sounds like a lovely place too. I'm biased against Iowa because it's landlocked, but really, it's probably just fine. There are lakes there right? Anyway. I'm excited to see where life takes you. And I hope it involves a NPS job sooner rather than later in a really cool place!
You should give me a call when you are out here for Ed Week and we can hang out. Here is my email amy.stephens@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteHow exciting Kate!!! Go whereever the wind takes you! Have some more adventures! I just think you're awesome!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting cast in the play! I love your 'thanks for playing' wall! Something will work out! If you do come to Utah, and have time I would love to meet up with you!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the musical! That is a lot of bruises. Your cake balls look delicious. Can I have the recipe?? Good luck with the job placement. Iowa is a great place to live - I sure miss it!
