Lignirosaphobia

Yes, I made that up and yes, it does exist.

While 'permanent' temporary employment has been non-existent my first month in Florida, I have been very blessed to work a few hours at a locally owned shop just down the road. The owner does a lot (FedEx Pack and Ship, Body by Vi, and Scentimental Gifts) and has been busy getting ready for Valentine's Day. The big item, wooden roses.
When I first saw them, I thought, wow, they look real! And they do; just ask everyone who comes into the shop. Everyone is surprised to learn they are made of wood. When the over three thousand, that's 3,000, or 3K roses came in, I was enlisted to help make bouquets.

First, Kate is left brained. Second, making bouquets is right brained. Third, I have never arranged flowers before. Conclusion: my first few bouquets were called all sorts of names (including "they look like peacocks, in a bad way") and critiqued like a southern hick trying to sing Italian opera with perfect pronunciation.
Since I first started working on this post, my flower arranging skills have improved somewhat. My bows, however, are still a waste of ribbon and I have given up even trying to make them.

Therefore: wood=ligni, rose=rosa, fear=phobia. It takes too much of a skill I don't have. The amount of creativity needed from me to create these has me totally drained at the end of the day. They are very pretty and I hope they sell well. I will be very glad when they are all gone, for sure!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

  2. I'm impressed, they look real to me. Also, a friend of mine had to learn how to tie bows for her work so she looked up a youtube video and found tutorials there.
