Independence Day Hike

We went on a family hike yesterday in the Eldorado National Forest as has been our tradition the last few years.  This year, we headed east to Echo Summit to do a hike to Echo Lake.  It was a perfect day for it.

The trail we hiked was part of the Pacific Crest Trail and we were passed by quite a few backpackers.  It made me want to go backpacking really bad.
The trail was just the right length for Wes who is a great little hiker.  Our final destination was Echo Lake.  A short side trail goes up to a beautiful view of Lake Tahoe.

Wesley in his very typical hands-behind-his-back stance.
We had lunch in the shade near this rock.  Gil started climbing on it and Wesley decided he was big enough to do the same.  I climbed up as well.
There was a small bridge and Wesley loved it!  Every time we go under a freeway overpass he let's us know, "Bidge!  Bidge!"

Echo Lake with the whole hiking party.
Happy Independence Day!
